Is Even R1 worth buying? Hands-down control was the real benefit
G2 can be controlled on its own. Here is why I still liked R1, and where I would temper expectations.

What made Even R1 worthwhile for me was controlling the glasses without reaching up, more than collecting health data. If you use G2 every day, that small difference comes into play repeatedly.
Fewer reaches up to your glasses
Temple touch controls on G1 sometimes frustrated me, including the effects of sweat and hair. R1 let me control things by my hand instead of feeling for the temple. The difference stood out particularly when I was on the move.
G2’s own controls also felt more responsive than G1’s. R1 was not necessary just to use the glasses. It is reasonable to see how much you use the on-frame controls before deciding to add a ring.

It is more noticeable than an ordinary ring
My size 9 unit measured 6.0 g. It did not tire my finger, but it felt somewhat chunky. If you do not normally wear rings, the experience of keeping something on your finger matters alongside control convenience.
The original review found the health readings useful as a reference but also expressed reservations about accuracy. This was not a validation against measurement equipment, so it cannot guarantee precision. For my own purchase, health tracking would not be the main reason.

Consider it especially if you interact frequently
If touching your glasses each time you open a notification or advance the display bothers you, R1 is easier to appreciate. If you only glance at the display occasionally, the on-frame controls may be enough. Frequency is a better guide than buying an accessory by default.
Check official information for current G2 and R1 purchase options and sizes. In my experience, R1 mattered less for adding capabilities than for making the existing ones easier to use.
