On October 20, 2026, Snap announced that Robert Downey Jr. had become honorary Chief Customer Experience Officer (CCEO) of SPECS. The job is to show people what they can do with it, to plan Lens experiences (AR content that runs on the glasses) and original video, and to work with them on hardware and in-person experiences. The announcement is the role and the series. It does not change the model.

SPECS is see-through AR glasses. Hands and voice place a digital experience in the space in front of you. The official site says a 51-degree waveguide (the part that carries the image through the lens to the eye) matches a 115-inch screen about 10 feet (about 3 meters) away. The 47mm size weighs 132g, and the 52mm size weighs 136g. It also has speakers that leave the ears open and six microphones. The countries named for pre-order are the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.

The first result is four experiments

An original series came out with the appointment. The page introduction lists getting better at golf, watching a show anywhere, clearing up a workspace, and learning a skill you do not have yet. The experiments are named Read The Green, Bediquette, Out With The Old, and Masterpiece. The heading on Read The Green is Sink it every time, which maps to reading a golf green. Masterpiece is about learning a skill you do not have.

Downey's comment says he tried wearables for nearly 20 years without being impressed, and decided on SPECS in 40 seconds. The announcement also says the series will run on broadcast: the New York Knicks versus Philadelphia 76ers tip-off the same day, and World Series Game 1 on October 23.

The reason to buy moves past the spec sheet

What this role moves is who wears the glasses and what they do in them. It puts a person who looks right in the machine on the experience side. Some people choose the same shape of smart glasses by who is wearing them, after the numbers. Some buy the same glasses because they look cool.

The official page heading also says Downey tries SPECS as Chief Customer Experience Officer. Lens examples include the Harry Potter HBO series, the NBA, and a whiteboard you can carry. What they are putting out is an errand you keep doing while you wear them.

This announcement does not open pre-orders in Japan

The pre-order notice covers the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. What you pay is a refundable deposit, and it does not confirm an order. A launch date for Japan is not in this appointment announcement.

What the series asks is which errand to put in front of your face. Model numbers and prices stay on the product page. A call for Lens projects that do not need the hardware is in another article.

I'm transmitting the actual experience and usage of smart glasses.
