Even and Keisuke Honda look like a signal that the low-friction path is almost in place

Keisuke Honda’s Even G2 ambassadorship and the web movie “Honda’s Iibun,” read from primary sources and from a low-friction way of spreading.

Keisuke Honda has become the brand ambassador for Even G2. This is not a story to read as a rumor of a new model. What the company is moving is who wears them, and which work scenes get shown.

My reading is simple. Even is reading the layers properly. It is a hire that lands with business people, and it also makes sense as a contact with people who run funds. It overlaps quite a bit with the “low-friction way of spreading” I posted the other day.

The movie shows work that does not drop your gaze

The web movie released with the appointment, “Honda’s Iibun” (15 and 30 seconds), follows a salesperson visiting a client, from the meeting through the presentation. The press release names three uses: checking information before the meeting, realtime translation during it, and showing a script during the presentation.

Keep your eyes on the other person, and put only the information you need in front of you. The G2 pitch of doing less looking down at a phone or a laptop is the footage itself.

The official page uses the same line. Think, say, decide. The information you need, at the moment you need it.

I will not repeat the hands-on notes on translation and the teleprompter here. How readable the subtitles are, and the small daily conveniences, are already in other pieces. What this announcement is for is whose workday they put the tool into.

No camera is also about how easy they are to wear for business

Both the press release and the official page put the lack of a camera forward as a privacy choice. The promise is to put information in your view during meetings and negotiations, without filming the people around you.

When I chose Even G2 for everyday use, one reason was that the hours I am not filming are longer. Making it harder for the other person to brace for “I might be recorded” is, as much as the convenience, a condition for keeping them on. The movie’s setting in business fits that design.

I am not opening the branch for people who need a camera here. The piece about choosing by whether you capture, or whether you wear them every day, is in another article.

The interview points past the display, toward an agent

In the post-shoot interview, Honda touches the G2 as his first pair of smart glasses and says it feels like “so this is how far it has come.” After the sense of distance and how clean the display looks, the press release says he sees possibility in a coach’s use that puts tactics and positioning in view, and in an investor’s use where an AI agent surfaces industry and competitor information while he listens to a founder’s pitch.

On the official comment side, it also says that if you can get the information you need while talking, the speed of the work and the quality of the judgment go up. The weight is moving off the display itself, toward putting information next to a decision.

Here I am borrowing the primary source’s words as they are. I am not thinning them through a secondary summary.

Mogura also published the same day as an entry point for the news, but I am checking the facts against the PR TIMES release and the official page above first.

It lines up, almost, with a low-friction way of spreading

The low-friction way for smart glasses to spread, as I laid it out before, is these five.

  1. Blend in as ordinary glasses
  2. Aim upscale
  3. Appoint an image evangelist
  4. Do not stoke needless alarm
  5. Offer communication content

I wrote that one company is close to getting this right. Even.

This appointment moves 3 and 5 at the same time. Stand up one person as the symbol, and put a communication demo on video: a meeting, translation, and a script on display. 1 and 2 are the ground the G2 already held, with a look close to ordinary glasses and with price and finish. 4 sits with the camera-free design itself, which cuts the excess wariness of “I might be watched” first.

As I wrote in the SPECS × RDJ piece, after the brand comes “who wears them.” The closer reading is that Even, having already stacked everyday wearability, put Honda on that question. Color and accessory updates exist as a separate matter, and they are not the subject this time.

So this announcement does not need to change how I would buy. The story of the G2 as the everyday benchmark, and the story of recommending it as a first pair, both stay. What changes is the resolution of the image of someone wearing them, aimed outside the category. More than winning a feature list, Even has not dropped the order of reducing friction. That is the reading this time.
